The BLUE BOOK OF
GUN VALUES is a pricing guide for firearms,
mostly from the modern era but with a few antiques (such
as Winchester, Colt, Smith & Wesson and Springfield).
It uses percentage of the firearm's original finish as
its grading criteria, and in my experience this is a good
method of grading because usually the internal condition
of the gun is generally about the same as the exterior
condition (there are of course exceptions, such as a
broken part or a bulged barrel on a gun which appears
almost new). There is also a section which shows, in
color pictures, what the various percentage grading look
like on rifles, pistols and shotguns. The current (17th)
edition also includes the manufacturer's suggested retail
price on in production models. It is a paper bound book
of 1,360 pages.
